A Celebration

A programme of events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Members of the community formed a local group to organise a weekend of celebrations. Involved the whole community through constant use of the media and publicity.

The Celebration was so successful, that people had to be asked to bring their own chairs!

Broughton
Village Plan

The preparation of a Village Plan for a five year period.

The Parish Council sponsored this activity through the Vital Villages programme. They were one of the first councils in Cumbria to do so.

There was very broad consultation in the community and production of a good summary.

Lowick

Developing a strong community network using the school as a focus.

A long term initiative to support rural schools, in Lowick this was about fun and activities for everyone in the community to be involved in.

The Network helped people identify what was important and to plan a campaign to tell others about it!

The Northern Fells Rural Project
Minibus Scheme

This project originated from concern at the local Doctors surgery for people who did not have their own transport.

A group covering seven rural parishes formed to fundraise for and then run a minibus.

The bus is staffed by volunteers and provides transport for 100 passengers per month.

Windermere
Food for Thought

An event to raise the issue of local and global food issues.

The Cumbria Education Development Centre worked with the local community to produce a food directory and run this informative and celebratory event with eighty participants.
